International Abilympics Helsinki 2027 will take place in Helsinki on 10–13 May 2027 as part of Skills Games, the largest vocational skills event ever organised in Finland. The event will be held alongside Taitaja, Finland’s national skills competition, bringing together national and international skills excellence on one platform.
International Abilympics Helsinki 2027 is developing the first comprehensive and transferable model for delivering inclusive skills competitions. In Abilympics Helsinki 2027, skilled professionals with disabilities and special support needs compete in their professional fields, with participants from all over the world. Although International Abilympics competitions have been organised in different countries for decades, each host nation has traditionally built the event largely from scratch. Knowledge and experience have been passed from one organiser to the next through advice and practical guidance, but no shared, documented, and reusable delivery model has existed. Abilympics Helsinki 2027 aims to change this by creating a comprehensive framework covering event delivery, branding, expert training, CIS-based assessment, and digital collaboration tools.
The model brings together best practices, processes, operating methods, and digital solutions developed through WorldSkills competitions, Finland’s national Taitaja competitions, and Abilympics activities. It will help future host countries deliver competitions more consistently, efficiently, and accessibly, while strengthening collaboration between TVET providers, employers, and international networks of skills experts.
Our goal is to accelerate the international development of inclusive skills competitions by sharing ready-to-use models, tools, and best practices with future host countries. We aim to make competition delivery easier, strengthen quality and accessibility, and create better opportunities for people with disabilities and special support needs to participate and succeed at international skills competitions.
