Project description
The global workforce is undergoing unprecedented transformation driven by automation, digital technologies, sustainability imperatives, and demographic changes. These shifts are placing increasing pressure on education systems to develop future-ready workforce that aligns closely with industry needs. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) systems are increasingly expected to play a central role in preparing youth for employment, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning.
However, many countries continue to face challenges such as:
- Weak industry-education linkages
- Limited pathways between vocational and higher education
- Skills mismatch with emerging technologies
- Underrepresentation of women in technical careers
This Skills CoLab project will showcase the following themes:
- Skills university model as a bridge between skill development and higher education
- Building industry-driven learning ecosystems
- Leveraging technology for future-ready skills training
- Promoting gender inclusion in STEM and technical careers
- Creating scalable models for emerging economies
- Contributing to global discussions on how education systems can better align with the future of work.
As the world seeks new models for preparing youth for rapidly changing labour markets, innovative institutions such as Symbiosis Skills and Professional University offer valuable insights. By integrating industry collaboration, experiential learning, technology-driven training, and gender inclusion, SSPU demonstrates how higher education institutions can play a pivotal role in shaping the future of skills development. Skills CoLab 2026 provides an important platform to share these experiences and to collaborate with global partners in building inclusive, resilient, and future-ready skills ecosystems.
