Project description
Securing a sustainable supply of skilled workers has become a defining challenge for economies worldwide. Germany addresses this challenge by combining a strong vocational education and training system with transparent, efficient, and evidence-based recognition of foreign professional qualifications. The BQ-Portal is a digital public information platform designed to support fair and consistent recognition procedures. It provides structured and comparable information on vocational education and training systems and qualifications from around the world. By making training structures, curricula, legal frameworks, and professional profiles more transparent, the project enables competent authorities, recognition bodies, policymakers, and other stakeholders to assess foreign qualifications quickly and effectively. The project serves public administration, skilled workers, employers, and institutions involved in recognition and labour market integration. It helps reduce information gaps, supports evidence-based decision-making, and contributes to faster, more transparent recognition processes. In doing so, it strengthens access to employment opportunities for internationally qualified professionals while supporting employers and economies facing skilled labour shortages. The BQ-Portal is relevant in a context where transparency in vocational training standards is essential for trust, mobility, and international cooperation. By connecting education, labour market needs, and digital governance, the project contributes to reliable recognition of foreign professional qualifications. Its data-driven approach highlights the potential of making vocational qualifications comparable, of digital interfaces, and of international knowledge exchange to promote the mobility of skilled workers and to reinforce the significance of global vocational education and training systems.
